(Home) Cylinder head, valve clearances

Hello And Thank you for such a brilliant site I am in the trade and don,t no everthing this site has a wealth of information and help
Question I have just replace my cylinder head after a over heating problem I got a S/H one from jap parts
i relap Valves and reshimmed ? refitted ext and now it is fine but noisey and after thinking on it I believe that the head Ifitted may not of been a turbo as I have check the cam and the loobs are about 4.mm greater
than the original I will change it back but just wonder if that could be the case ???(2 CT engine)

Don't worry which cam is fitted, makes next to no difference IMO. Did you shim the valves to .2-.3, .25-.35? Doesn't take the clearance to be much more than .35 for noise. I find as long as there IS clearance with a cold engine (bucket free to rotate), it doesn't matter too much- clearance increases as the engine warms.
Funny, both times I've put a head on mine, I've checked the gaps off the engine, and once fitted, one closed up, to the extent that a valve would leak for the first 30secs running.
