i have successfully been using the small 300w qm81 inverter, which is fan cooled, for 230v ac for tv, video, playstation etc while travelling. "are we nearly there?" is now rarely heard from the back seats.
it's available mail order from www.maplin.co.uk it was £50 but is now in their sale for just £30.

there is a smaller 150w one but i suspect this will not handle the switch on surge for this sort of thing.
