(Home) Ignition lock

My ignition lock jams in the lock position which makes it very hard to turn the key to start my Townie. It has also resulted in a number of brocken keys. I have discovered that if the key is turned in the lock to halfway between lock and Anc I have no problems. Is it ok to leave my ignition in this position or will the battery be drained. I dont need the ignition lock on because the Townie is fitted with an alarm / imobiliser.

Battery will drain, over a period of time, this leaves clock & radio, as well as any other accessories 'on', try a small amount of PTFE spray in the lock to lubricate it, also a good wriggle of the wheel at first to help release the 'lock' usually helps. HTH regards Rob.

Is it possible to leave my ignition key halfway between LOCK and AUX. The reason I ask is because in the LOCK position my Key jams and has snaped a few times. I have checked to see if anything is live in the halfway position and I dont think anything is, clock and radio are off and none of the switches etc work.

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that the lock problem is on my 1989 Royal Lounge EFI.

When you say it jams, is this only when the steering lock engages, if so give the steering wheel a wiggle as you release the lock turning the key, this should make it easier to turn. Also try getting some lock lubricant (normally graphite powder) to see if this frees the lock up at all. HTH Rob.
