New master ace owner

having recently bought a MasterAce Surf Royal Saloon (only the Japs could come up with a name like that !), I am delighted to have found the mine of info. available on this site.
My current query is what the tyre pressures should be - any idea anyone ? - (#4021) Frank Mills, 18 Apr 02

They are also posted on this site. However John Davis has been doing some useful research in this area, which I have 'borrowed' and am following up. The spec as stated by Toyota is 2.3N (about 33psi). However, a few months ago many contributors reported to be running their tyre pressures a lot higher (as much as 42psi), in order to reduce tyre wear.
I used to run mine at 35psi then raised them to 42 psi and found my fuel consumption had improved slightly. However, the downside is that the ride was noticeably harder such that I felt every pothole and the ride was noisier as the bangs went through the suspension.
I have now dropped my pressures to 37psi and this looks to be the optimum level with ride v mpg. However, I need to do a lot more mileage before giving a definitive answer.
So, the answer to your question is - somewhere between 33 and 42 psi. See what works best for you.

Thanks Ian. I'll experiment !
Incidentally, if anyone is involved in colour matching 20L (Silver over grey). Through a dint of searching I have found a Toyota 148 match for the silver. The grey was unbtainable (locally anyway) but I found an excellent match with Holt's Austin Rover Gun Metal metallic + clear laquer. - (#4034) Frank Mills, 20 Apr 02
