(Home) LPG conversion

I have just become the proud owner of a Royal Lounge, love it!!! I've been interseted in LPG due to the large savings in running costs, does anyone know if it's at all possible to convert a Townace to LPG and if so where can it be done (I live in Gloucester) With thanks, Ant.

I think this topic has been raised before (check Townace.com) and the concensus being that it would be difficult if not impossible. The fact that it is an import makes it even more difficult because as you have probably found out already, not many garages want to touch them. LPG conversion specialists will no doubt have their own prejudices/inhibitions about touching them. Check with a specialist and see what the reaction is.

I visitied a place in Gloucester (lost the name now) who were not interested in Toyota, imports or anything older than 5 years, after poking around for 20 minutes. Their advise was to go veggie and run on cooking oil. http://www.veggiepower.org.uk is the place to start. I ran a static test 1ltr of veg oil (ASDA cheapest of the cheap) and all ran ok, unable to take it out on the road so can't tell if performance is affected. Not decided what to do yet, Anyone converted to veg oil got any views, other than 17p a litre and smelling like a chip shop?

Ant, is your townie petrol or diesel?

About 9 months ago I converted my 1988 Royal Lounge to run on LPG. The conversion was pretty straighforward and overall I'm pleased with the package. Adjusting the gas pump to achieve optimum tickover and economy has been a bit tricky and I've not really got it right yet, but under current pricing my Townie is about as cheap to run as my old Citroen BX diesel. I wondered if anyone else has converted and what their experience has been.

To be honest, there would be only a few people who would have been able to do this conversion, most of the Townaces etc that come into the UK are Diesel, with only a few petrols coming in, that's why most of the talk on this forum is about the 2CT engine, most common setup is really the autobox & Diesel, those with Manuals or Petrol engines are a rarity, however anyone else out there please do give opinion & performance data as this could be useful to others. Regards Rob.

Yes I was considering it for my 89 liteace, but looking at the mileage i was doing it wasn't worth it at the present, as a matter of interst what did the you pay, and did you fit it yourself or go for the easy option?
Mind you if fuel prices try to take off later on it might become more popular
Cheers, kev
