(Home) Buying (Sp+)

buying liteace 2 litre turbo diesel
the one we are looking at has had a reconditioned rebuilt engine - on the initial test drive seemed ok. ( i will take the advice found else where and test drive again b 4 purchase for a longer time up hill down hill and in town etc )
turbo light (green) comes on fine with turbo coming on. no obvious over heating signs such as water stains out of the expansion tank. ( un like another we looked at yesterday - we followed some one elses warning and walked away ! )

has any one any top tips before we go back again to take another look. what signs and symptons should we be looking for of possible expense in the near future ??

just to give a little background - - we (family of 6) just sold on a 1983 model f and loved it so much so we decided looked for a diesel replacement so the lite ace will be our second toyota family carrier...

any advice appreciated

Ian,
As an ex spacy you will know most things already. The engine is covered in detail in Ace Answers, Townace.com , also have a read under the ownership heading. Townace Nutters UK site (townace.port5.com) has some non techy views. Rust should not be a problem but depends on how long it's been in the country and if it was undersealed/rust proofed. So check everything works air-con, heating, gears (if 4WD check that works too), doors (front doors can droop simple fix but a pain to do!)and lights (see ace answers again). The engine was rebuilt for a reason but that may have been resolved. If in doubt get a vehicle examination done.
Well done on choosing one of these brill machines, did the exact same thing myself.
Your e-mail address looks interesting, are you a possible co-ordinator of a future Ace Rally, go on you know you want to?
