I have read the various post on ace answers about voltage drop etc my 92 2.0td 4x4 litace has had this problem for 5 months or more and is now getting worse I noticed this morning when it doesnt work that the rear heater blower is turning on even though the switch is off so I turned the heater on before turning the ignition to accessory position to power heater up, turned it off then turned it over after a couple of attempts it fired up and the heater didnt turn on when it failed to turn over the first time, its been ok for rest of day ,but it does it regular goes for days fine and then goes a day sticking continuasly. Its really doing my head in now though as I am driving to cornwall in a couple of weeks and wondered if any one else has noticed the same symptons

Very strange. Especially as there's a "T" in the wire from the ign switch to the starter that goes to one of the a/c relays below the glovebox...
To confuse matters further, the rear blower fan's control relay seems to get it's power from the a/c fuse, but it needs power to pull in! Is the a/c switched on when the failure occurs?
Does the starter click when it fails to turn over? Put a voltmeter or lamp on the solenoid feed ad see whether you're getting battery voltage when you turn the key.

When the starter fails it just clicks and the rear blower powers up with no a/c on I have being making a point of turning all electrics off before trying to start it but when it fails the rear blower always powers up.I have tried disconecting solonoid feed and touching it to main live on starter and it clicks just the same

Well, that proves a problem with the starter, probably just the contacts. But worth checking the bearings in the motor too- I had one collapse, and it increased the current consumption from 90- 150A off-load.
Still can't get my head round the rear heater thing- the switches for the fan don't meet with the feed from the relay...
Does the fan come on at the speed set on the control, or at full speed? It might be wise to check the main earth from battery to bellhousing- a return voltage drop could (very unlikely) cause starter current to earth through say, the fan...

havent had time to check the contacts yet but the rear fan comes on at the the speed set on the control ,had a good couple of days again
