(Home) Front wheel bearings & 4WD hub

hi its gary, thanks for the help with the "little green light" i have now fixed it.my next question is wheel bearings,i have a slightly wobbly front wheel and was wondering weather it had taper roler bearings (that can easily be "nipped" up )or is it renewal only? secondly how do you get to them with the 4x4 hub there.any info would be gratefully received thanks.

it should be in the archives. hub outer off, hub body off (cone washers are a bugger)then it's a nut and locknut. 52mm,but hammer and punch work...

Yes it's not the easiest thing to find in Ace Answers. (Transmission/4WD/Hubs)

Use http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/aisin/index.htm but you only need the first bit - how to get the hub off.

I've done it to take up play in my front bearings.

Yes the cone washers are a puzzle but hit them 3 times as described and, ping! In theory you need a monster socket but since you're not opening the bearing, just taking up slack, you can do the locknut with wide-jawed multigrip pliers and tighten the inner nut finger tight. Be prepared to get your tools and fingers very greasy bending the tabs on the tab washer.
