(Home) Front hub cone washers

my local garage had a go at tightening front wheel bearing for me yesterday on my 4wd 2ct litace but couldnt get the cone washers to come out, tried tapping around the hub and the cone washers themselves but they wont budge, the washers are very soft and burr over when tapped with anything and he darent hit the hub any harder for fear of damage as he said the whole thing sempt very soft??and im taking it to cornwall on saturday so couldnt be certain replacement parts would be easily available .I would be grateful if could anyone shed anymore light on the subject?

See the link in either of the two threads under the above subject in Ace Answers. Basically you hit the end of the studs, very hard, but via a soft drift. I used a short piece of 12mm square aluminium, sideways on. Don't hit the hub or the washers.

the other way is to hit the hub surrounding the washers with a tubular drift, squarely. Penetrating fluid first helps in either case. Some say a fine tapered punch tapped into the gap in the washer helps too.
Once the first one comes out, the rest will be easier.
