(Home) Temperature gauge , sump removal

OK David
1. Located gauge, info was there, can't see for looking.
If I fit durite sender in head, how about the panel gauge sensor into filler neck blank, will this act as an early warning, as likely to be hotter here?
2. The old girl really brewed up as far as known, so whilst head change needed, we (my mechanic and I ) decided to drop the sump, pistons out, hone, rings, shells etc Any tips on taking sump off etc. Also part Nos on rings, shells; would be appreciated.
Thanks for responding to me, nice to know I'm talking to a sensible bloke rather than a "Toyota dealer parts manager"------ "Import sir, wouldn't have a clue"
Thanks David --------- Roger

Yes, you could put the other sender in the filler neck, it might respond well there. Might get closer to the gauge's knee point that Dave refers to.
Sump is awkward (speaking from experience). You'll need to drop the crossmember& antiroll bar, the a/c pump and idler have to come off for access to some of the screws. Then it's bonded in place with silicone. No gasket. Have to beat a knife around the flange to seperate.
I'll be interested to hear what your mech. finds- I had my sump off quite recently to replace a cracked piston, and at 115k miles, the bottom half has no appreciable play. Any wear in the bores seems to be in the pistons.
Part no.s for rings and shells aren't so easy- you'll need the size number off the block and rods to get matching shells. The block numbers are stamped on the sump gasket face.

started to change the front brake pads on my 89 townace auto diesel this morning. the calipers are the single piston variety which hinge up over from the back of the disc. the problem i had was that i could not slide the caliper from side to side and insert both pads. i tried everything, from asking it nicely to hitting it with a sledge hammer (not really),without any joy. i couldn't find any adjuster whatso ever to allow it to move. can anyone please help, i am new to these new fangle foriegn machines more at home with easy to rust bl/rover/gm motors. john elliott.
