I have a Townace J-reg, can you go through a carwash with tailgate reversing mirror without damaging the bodywork, or do the manufacturers advise against this.

I always take mine off. 4 bolts. Takes a couple of minutes but I weigh that against the good value I get - all that bodywork cleaned for the same price as someone with a Nissan Micra.

Mine's survived a couple of carwashes, but the driver's door mounted radio aerial didn't.
