(Home) Torque settings

Can I just confirm the Torque settings for a the head on a turbo disel 2lt 4 wheel drive.ie 33lb per ft +90c +90c only we have striped the thing down and want to get it right first time (hopefully!!).Also are the head bolts the same as a toyota carina. many thanks

Yes and yes!

When replacing the exhaust manifold to the block I used the standard settings specified in RM025E (page B-3) of 28 N-m.
I've just noticed on page A-5 of RM025E Torque Specifications 'Manifold x Cylinder Head Exhaust' setting 47 N-m.
Which is right and why is there such a difference between the two setting?
I'm embarking on a long trip Wednesday so a quick response would be much appreciated.

manifold setting is higher as they're high tensile fasteners

Oh no!
I'll have to hire the torque wrench again! And remove the heat shields - bother!
I'm glad I noticed the alternative higher setting though and can get it sorted BEFORE going on my trip.

I wouldn't panic too much- if the gasket is sealing, it'll be OK. It's not unknown for the threads in the head to strip, so discretion might be the best part of valour on this one...

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm inclined to apply a bit more torque if I get time tomorrow - I don't want the bolts unwinding during my week long journey but thanks for the warning - I'll be sweating as I approach the required torque level!!

I can't find a special torque figure for the exhaust downpipe to the turbine elbow - are these *not* high tensile fittings and therefore the standard torque figure is appropriate?

standard will suffice...
