hi townies
for some reason my fuel needle is not quite with it? when it shows 1/4 of a tank i run out of fuel.
could it be the float valve sticking if so any ideas how i get to it.

drop the tank...

Mine does the same - I just reset the trip everytime I fill up and expect to refill every 450 to 480 km.

does the light come on, BTW?

Check you don't have a huge dent in the tank. Get your dirty clothes on and look under the body. If found, this could be an indication of a "damaged repairable" as typically what insurance garages do is to move them about the storage yard is use a forklift truck. This usually damages the fuel tank. !

thank every one .the light does not come on dave and there is no dent in the tank. i dont fancey dropping the tank, what exactly would i be doing if i did ?? is it possible it is just the fuel guage that could be faulty, its been like this since i bought it.
thanks

Nah, if the gauge won't go to the end AND the light isn't coming on, first thing, put a new bulb in the dash. The light works off a thermistor, quite seperate to the float for the gauge. Perhaps someone has put the wrong sender in?
Even if the float on the sender is sticking, the light should come on once the thermistor leaves fuel.
Perhaps the fuel pickup is damaged, sitting higher in the tank than it's meant to? How much fuel does it take to fill up when you run out?

Further to my post and as a follow up to the others -my light does come on generally just below the 3/16 mark and at that stage the trip reads 480 and it takes over 47 litres to fill tank - I just assume that the guage is wrong and work to the trip.

Jim
