interior heater fan

have a 1988 townace master ace surf 2.0dt. my interior fan heater packed up, when i had it on few weeks ago. had it on full blast on a hot day with the air con switched on but whilst it was running it just stopped & now the fan does not work at all, which we need for the internal heat blowers. have checked all the fuses to the right of and beneath the glove box and they look ok. what else could it be? are there any other fuses or relays etc.. that i need to check ? please help we are very cold.

You are likely to have "climate control" on the Masterace and the sensor (the square block on top of the dashboard, right in the corner of the windscreen, passenger side) will control the fan when the air con is on, ie, when you select a lower temperature on the heater control scale, this sensor will control the temperature inside the vehicle, ie on a hot day it will "sense" and switch the fan on to cool the vehicle interior. Try putting the air con on, select the lowest temperature setting (left hand side of the scale) and see if the fan starts up. It will help if there is sunshine falling onto the windscreen. This might tell you if the sensor is faulty and holding the fan in the off postion.
On my Masterace, I had a similar problem. However, the fault was in the fan switch. You have to take some of the facia off, in front of the heater controls, to get at this switch. You can take it apart and you might find that the contacts are dirty. Take care. There is a spring loaded ball which keeps the contacts together. On mine, the spring had collapsed. Before you do this, try some light pressure, up and down, on the sliding fan blower switch and see if the fan cuts in. This should, artificially bring the contacts together, if the ball/spring device has failed.

As I replied in the other thread you asked the question in, there's a circuit breaker or two beside the fusebox. Stick a pin in the hole atop the breaker to reset it.

Thanks John Davis I will try this & let you know how I got on, because I have already tried the pin thing with the circuit breakers.

OK I have tried the things suggested to on this board and in the other thread. I am now ready to see an auto-electrician. There seems to be relays, circuit breakers fan motor & other swithches which could be at fault. I really need to see an Auto Electrician can anyone please recomend me any preferably in North London, incl some parts Essex, Middlesex & Hertfordshire.

I've got a Master Ace Surf 4WD also, the other day the heater fan too stopped working, tried all the fixes posted here to no avail. Next day started blowing fuses left right and centre, rear lights, indicators and wipers all went. I seem to have tracked down a fault in the rear wiper motor, and by disabling this I am able to run all of the above items successfully apart from the heater fan, which refuses to play along. Can anyone suggest two things:-
a) Whats wrong with the heater fan, and how to fix it.
b) Where can I get a "new" rear wiper motor? 'cos I'm not going to cough up £120+ for a two-bit motor from Toyota, (especially as my 1998 VW polo has cost £600 this week when the clutch assembly and flywheel destroyed themselves)

More of my problems
The heater fan in the dashboard is not working, though when turned on and off I can hear the relay clicking so there's obviously power there. As I've already said the next day the rear lights and indicators together with the dashboard lights stopped working, with fuses blown, rapidly followed by the wipers which also blew the fuse. Replacing the fuses doesn't work as they soon blow again. I disconnected the rear wiper motor, since it was stuck upright, and trying to drive down (and thereby immediately blowing the fuse) which got the front ones available again, but this might be a red herring as I have again blown fuses on these same three circuits since my last posting. I suspect, but cannot prove, that the problem stems from a fault with the blower fan motor, either a short, or an earth fault, but I am having difficulty in identifying (and thereby accessing) the motor to disconnect it. Can anyone please help me with my problem?
I've had the rear wiper motor checked out, and though it's a bit stiff in operation seems to work okay.

My front heater does not work. My husband says that it coincides with a rear speakers being fitted in the summer. Our 88 Liteace Wagon is fab. Still less than 90.000 miles on a diesel engine. I really want to hang on to it but can't afford the £70 an hour that Toyota is asking to investigate and solve the problem. With frost coming soon and a load of foster children and our own children we really could use some help. Yes I realise that I'm dumb, but can anyone tell me where to look for these circuit breakers? Can I get a drawing of what one looks like. I've checked the fuses and have virtually dismantled the dashboard trying to find the motor.
