(Home) Mot

Just wanted to buck the trend for only posting on the BoK when it all goes wrong. Just put the Townace in for the MOT, (god is it really almost a year since we bought it) and she sailed through, not so much as an advisory, MOTer said it was the best one he'd seen, bodywork & underneath, and emmisions were perfect. Just would also like to thank those who have helped me with information since owning the beast as I'm sure it would have taken me much longer to work out some of the things I have done on her since buying it. Looking forward to another year of trouble free motoring, fingers crossed. Regards Rob.

Just came home from mot 1990 royal lounge.
One problem had to disconnect the 5 watt front yellow lamps next to the indicator. Only allowed white light to show from the front on side or head lights.
Rewired into indicator. No problem.
Funny thing when we bought from the importer last year with a 12 month mot etc they passed it makes you wonder about some of these mot garages.
The garage I use is a neighbour/owner and he realy reved the engine. Is that right for the emission test.

Shouldn't really have failed on the orange marker lights, mine went through OK, the law says that you are allowed 5w orange marker lights,as long as they are symmetrical in their configuration, but rear facing ones must be red. Have a look at a Volvo S40, they have amber side marker lights visible from the front, they are UK spec vehicles, so should they fail? but if you've wired them into the indicators then no prob. The only worry I can think of is if they make your indicators flash at a different speed!, total load on flasher unit is normally 21+21+5 = 47w your effectively adding over 10% to the load on it, let us know if it's OK. Regards Rob.

Phil,
"and he realy reved the engine. Is that right for the emission test."
Sadly, yes. I cannot bear to watch it and, although I have every faith in my relatively new cambelt, head gasket etc, etc, I still cringe when the revs are held at around 4000. I am not sure of the need for this performance, ie, oil temperature recorded, emissisons recorded at the kind of revs which most of us don't subject our vehicles to anyway. There has been some argument on another motoring website regarding the need for this but, perhaps the Motor Engineers among our ranks can explain why it is done.

I've had my Townie coming up to 4 years now..(feb 2003). & only last year did I have to do any thing.. & that was only the flexi brake pipes ( £20 ) thats all..
Not bad for a car of it's age ??????

I need a new exhaust system now !!!
