(Home) High power fog lamp bulbs, now available

Hello all,
As discussed a few weeks ago I now have the high powered fog lamp bulbs available,(supplier out of stock, hence the delay), to recap, they are a standard SBC bayonet base (the same as the 35w bulbs fitted as standard) they have a 55w halogen top to them (the same as a standard foglight bulb you might find in any UK spec car), this means they will fit straight into the Townace bulbholders & provide you with a decent crisp white light. They are clear, so will provide white light, unless you have a model with the yellow inserts in the lamps (I haven't tried them in this type of lamp, so I don't know if they will melt the yellow lenses!!!). As you will probably know I have been using these for some months now & have had no problem with either wiring or the plastic lenses in the lamps. I have 8 left & the total cost per pair is £10.00 including p+p in UK mainland, first come, first served. Please e-mail me directly if you would like a pair & I'll stick them in the post to you. (please supply name & address, then stick a cheque in the post to me, I can't guarantee how the Royal Mail will look after them, but I will wrap them well & stick them in a jiffy bag, don't forget that you must not touch the glass on a halogen bulb, handle it by the metal base only). Regards Rob.

To anyone that cares, I have added a picture of the high powered bulbs to my TOWNIE webpage, it is at http://www.myrtleave.freeserve.co.uk/towniepics.htm so have a look, I have also posted a picture on here, if it works. Regards Rob.

Hate to poop on the party, Rob, but isn't the filament in a rather different position in the halogens? What effect does that have on the focus of the lamp?

As you rightly say David, the filament is slightly lower in the fitting than the tungsten bulb, but as the reflectors & lenses are a scatter patern anyway, rather than a projected focus that you would find in a DRIVING LAMP, it makes no odds, the Townie lamps are FOG LAMPS so as long as they don't dazzle oncoming motorists, which they don't, they're OK. I compared the light laid down on the road as well, on a pitch black road, the original yellow 35w bulbs made a faint pattern on the road, on fitting the 35w clear bulbs from the turn lamps there was a clearer pattern, but not bright, on fitting the 55w halogen bulbs there was a clearly defined area of light on the road, not as much as the main headlamps, due to poorer reflectors & lenses in the foglamps, but the main advantage is that it lights up the edge of the road more clearly on unlit roads. Hope this clears this up a bit, regards Rob.
