(Home) Flasher unit

Rob
You got me thinking about what you replied about the flasher unit rating in the mot thread.
I think you said 21+21+5 and by wiring in the 5 watt front markers increased by 10%.
You are right, but I also tow a trailer adding another 21 watt lamp. I remember reading somwhere that most flasher units are heavy duty and would be ok for this rating. My 2ct townie r/l still flashes the same but could I overload the unit. Any help please. Phil

the extra 5W won't burn it out. But if one of your main 21W bulbs blows, chances are that the additional load will mean the the flasher won't go at double time to warn you of the failure.

The extra 5w shouldn't burn out the flasher unit, just may make the flasher rate different, if you have a towbar wired in, you would have one of two things fitted on the vehicle, either an additional relay for towing, that means that the 21w flasher on the trailer is operated but not directly fed by the main flasher unit, or a H/D towing flasher unit that runs at the same speed whether the extra 21w is added or not, ie whether the trailer is plugged in or not.
