(Home) Aircon fans and radiators

Hi all from New Zealand...
Long time reader, first time writer. I am wondering if someone could clear something up for me. I have a 1988, 4WD, 2.0l 2CT diesel engine, super extra townace (CR30 mod)with manual gearbox, two rad's (horizontal and vertical) and viscous fan. I have also been through the dreaded blow'n head gasket problem. My questions are....
(1) Do both electric fans on the vertical rad stay on at a low speed all the time if the air con is on or not. I understand that the fans will stop at full throttle opening.
(2) Will both fans continue to stay on (at low speed) if the A/C is empty.
(3) Where is the sensor for these fans to switch on and off.
I understand that on some models the sensor is located near the rad filler neck. I have only one sensor there on my townace. I think that is to do with the turbo lights (green - orange) because when i disconnect it and take it for a run the turbo lights don't come on but you can still here the turbo (I maybe wrong).
(4) Do the two A/C fans have anything to do with the cooling of these vehicels.
Thanks for your assistance. Graham

Eh? that's odd, you said CR30 MANUAL with twin rads. Are you sure it's a Jap model townie? Has it had an engine and or gearbox change at some time?
Only a CR30 AUTO comes with the extra rad as standard.

Anyway, two fans on horizontal rad are two speed. Low speed is controlled by the aircon, they're on with the compressor. High speed is controlled by refrigerant pressure, and also by the lower-temp switch in the filler neck (105 IIRC) So the fans should still run at high speed when called for by the thermoswitch.
The other switch in the filler neck is used to cut out the a/c if the coolant gets too hot (112 IIRC)

So summink's a bit odd here, Graham...

Thankyou for the quick response David. you have cleared up a lot of worries that i had. The actual model # is Q-CR30G-MEZX with a 2CT engine with manual gearbox and yes it is a jap import but unsure if has had a engine and or gearbox change. Anyway, i looked under the townie last night and found that there is just 1 horizontal rad for the air con and 1 vertical rad for the coolant. Thanks again for all your help
