Hi all, it's me again Vince. Last post topic was "BROKEN CAM BELT :(" dated 20/10/02.

I have got the TownAce 2.0TD (2CT) to start and it runs real sweet. I got it started with a brand new battery @ £65 and a can of Easy Start.

Now I can 100% say that although it runs lovely and everything works. I can move the vehicle about in all gears yet there is a banging noise coming from the bottom of the engine. There is also a lot of smoke out of the back of the vehicle (although #1 easy start don't help with this I think and #2 the vehicle has been sitting around without starting for over a year) plus there is a dripping of oil running down and off of the oil filter (round oil filter on bottom of engine).

Well that's about it, any ideas like could it be like big ends? or what could it be if anyone can help please?
Also if they know of what it maybe, if they can give an estimate of what it would cost if the maybe thing is the problem.

Hi Vincent,
Firstly read the small print on your can of easy start, it'll probably tell you not to use it on diesels with glow plugs (Heater plugs) which of course the Townie has. The oil filter is on the side of the engine, so are you sure the oil's coming from the filter, personally I still think that your bottom pulley is coming off & the oil could be coming from the front crank oils seal that has been damaged by the movement in the bottom pulley area, but without seeing the vehicle I can't be sure. with the engine off, try tugging & pulling at the bottom pulley on the front of the engine, where all the belts come back to, you may get some discerneable movement here. Also clean off the engine & see if you can see where the oil is eminating from, let us know what you find & we can all have a think on your problem. HTH Rob.
