(Home) Front wheel bearing

Advice needed, I have a slight rumble on the front drivers side wheel on my 1990 townie r/l 2ct.
It only seems to make a slight noise when I turn to the left. My question, is it a taper or fixed bearing also is it easy to change? do you need pullers etc, and even more help have you got a part number?
The other answer is I could always turn my cd player up. Ive got some new sony door speakers very powerfull. I have to visit m in law in essex and to drive from somerset with this problem may be to far.

Phil,
If RWD easy taper type, no special tools needed (apart from getting the cover off without damage). Half a flat should do it, and youm should replace the split pin.
If AWD a bit more involved and is covered in AceAnswers. Part numbers also listed there.

Thanks Clive, Yes rear wheel drive only. If its a taper I will check ajust and repack with grease.
When you say the cover are you refering to the grease cover? And half a flat for ajustment? Regards Phil

Yes and Yes, halt a flat = next space on the castlated nut. I can't recall what the manual says (Spacecruiser one), I think you torque it to something then 90 degree turn back. OK with new bearings but with old you can feel/hear free play. DON'T overtighten or it will get hot and sieze. Make sure the wheel spins same as the other side. n.b. won't spin too much if you have the brake insitu.

I will push brakes pads clear and get the same play on both sides. I remember from my old car bearings you tighten up until them bind then back of until free spin and almost no play.
Correct me if this is wronge. Phil
