Granty

Sounds to me like a "total loss". I suspect the insurance company will cost the repair as not economical. If it's crabbing the chasis is twisted. It's not that its can't be repaired. It's the cost!
Based on my repair costs ( lite ace )Front bumper new about £360 including back plate, Indicators £40, door skin about £40, Head lamps God knows!Side lamps about £40,windscreen probably about £130, If its crabbing ( make sure it is and its not just the front end of the chasis thats turned, but if the drivers door is damaged it probably is )it needs benched - typically about £300 per day its on a bench ( but the result by a professional is first class , providing they have the dimensions for OEM settings). Repaint anywhere between £300-500. Then there may be costs if the suspension, wheels, or rads / air con and indeed roof are damaged. Of course, lastly there is labour and that depends on where you take the vehicle.
You have the option to buy the salvage back from the insurance company, its been some time since I've looked at the figures but I think it's at 15 - 20% of the market vehicle value.
Second hand parts will make it cheaper, if you can get them. Many of my parts I had to buy through the dealer from Japan.
Don't give up on it. Price it all out first and then make a decision. If its still driving get it to a garage and get a better idea of the real damage first.
I bought mine as a write off ( uneconomical repair). Completely finished I was £1000 better off compared to book price.
Best of Luck

Sad news about the cruiser, what about the wife?
There are two for sale on eBay both about £250 at the moment with MoT and tax, gives you an idea of value?
Selling the bits looks a good idea but in practice not always. Some one I know did just that with a Maestro, battery wheels alternator went in a flash, a few bits more over a month, then nothing. He had to pay to get it taken away and as it was not rolling had to pay extra for that. You may be lucky as Cruiser/Ace bits should have a better demand. If you do can I have first dibs on the seat belts?
