My 1991 4WD Turbo Diesel Townace quotes two tyre sizes and pressures on the sticker in the driver's door jamb. The associated text is in japanese, so no help there. Are these tyre sizes alternatives that could have been fitted as original equipment or is it possible that one size is front and the other rear?

The two sizes are the sizes that will fit your vehicle with the same size front and back. Obviously if you change from what is fitted at the moment you will need to get your speedo recalibrated due to the different tyre circumference.
