(Home) Turbo recon to cure smoke

Following on from my earlier post it has been suggested that the oil seals in the turbo may have failed, causing the engine to smoke when in reverse and idling.
I can get the turbo reconned for £150, so now I need to know if it is difficult to remove, what is involved and will I need any gaskets when I replace it? (just asking so I can order them now)

Thanks for the help

Steve

Sounds a bit cheap for a good job- the full rebuild kit from turbotechnics is about £130. Anyone can do it, but without the correct equipment it's impossible to rebalance the turbo accurately. This will reduce it's lifetime- false economy perhaps?

Not do hard to do, the inlet ducting has to come off, then the exhaust manifold, and turbo.
If you're careful, you can probably reuse the turbo to manifold gasket (copper), but you'll need a manifold gasket.
