I have sourced a 2CT engine from Nipponspares.com. They have charged me a total of £580 including VAT and delivery (to NW Scotland, and it is an imported motor with a warrantied 45,000 miles use, and a 3 month guarantee. Seems like a good deal - does anyone have any experience of this firm?
Thanks
Tom

No experience with this firm Tom but, at that price, with the warranted mileage, 3 month guarantee etc, it sounds like a very good deal. Perhaps you can let us know how you get on with it

Is this nipponautospares.com ?
If so they operate out of Derby. Not actually bought anything from them but the guy there was really helpful when I was trying to source an upper wishbone earlier this year. I think he's fairly new to the game but has plenty of contacts and is developing a good reputation in the Derby area. He sounds very genuine, interesting to learn of the outcome.

The number is 020 8519 0500, based in London E15. They claim to be the UK's largest importers of Japanese parts - I got them from the Yellow pages. At the same time I tried 1st Choice Spares, who put out a request for a part to a large user base, who then contact you direct if they have what you want. I was offered 8 engines, but I'm not certain that all of them were diesel. Prices ranged from £175 (!) to £875, and warranties from none to three months. They offered me the engine (complete with fuel pump but not power steering or airconditioning pumps) at £475 + £40 delivery + VAT, (£605) but the guy knocked it down to £580 beause I was crying :-).Interestingly, their website is www.nipponspares.co.uk, and not .com, and the site is still under construction. I will report back on my experience.

hi tom lister
if its nippon spares in london which it sounds like, be careful
i bought an engine from them some 5 months ago ,same terms as yourself 3 months gaurantee £450 plus postage etc gave me unequvical gaurantees engine had been bench tested and perfect working condition?
recieved engine swopped over and guess what engine was knackered.garage said impossible engine could have been bench tested as fault was obvious, bottom end was knocking.took 2 weeks to convince nippon to take engine back took another 5 weeks to get a refund had to threaten them with court action.demanded cost of labour but decided it would be a waste of time, had to pay £500 in labour.car was of the raod for 6 weeks.
im sure things may be ok but ive learnt that gaurantees are only as good as the distance that seperates you.lucky i paid by visa card too. i personally would not deal with them again.
i hope all is well for you

Thanks for the info Javed - it sounds like you had a bad deal. I have paid by Visa, luckily. The Engine has arrived and is being fitted over the next couple of days. It did take a while to get to me, but that isn't unusual, all the courier work is via sub-contractors up here (NW Scotland). Engine looks very clean, but the crankshaft gasket needs replacing, and the oil is obviously quite old. I will let you know how it runs when it is finally installed.

hi tom
just read your message
for what its worth Tom it may be worth having the engine tested first by your garage. i cannt say how my garage quitye did it but after the saga with nippon
i got anorher engine from a breakers from manchester and this time the mechanic tested the engine first and just as well ,,it was nackered, this happened 3 times, same breakers yard, the 3rd time the owner came himself suspecting the garage of foul play. this time the mechanic insisted the owner stayed and tested the engine in his presance ,,,and guess what !! it was nackered ,,, the owner made sure the 4 engine was perfect.
sorry about the long tale but it may just save you a few pounds if the engine was tested first
good luck

The latest is that the engine has been fitted and seems to be OK, I am taking it back to the garage every night for a check on levels and for leaks, etc. The difference in performance is marked!!! But as the previous engine had a cracked head a shot piston rings, I'm not suprised.
If I had had your experience, Javed, I think I would have pushed the Townie (or the Scrappie) off a cliff by the third engine. Hope your beast is behaving itself now.
