(Home) Bang on start up

The first time I start up my 93 manual 2td liteace the is a single band or knock as the engine starts. The oil light goes out almost instantly and there are no other faults with the engine.

I did wonder if it could be big end or main bearings but would have thought that the oil light would stay on a little longer it this was the case.

Any ideas?

Any chance of an iffy injector? Loadsa fuel at startup, and extra advance. Any extra advance (caused by a low break pressure for example) could mean you're hearing a massive diesel knock as it catches...

It could be this, could injector cleaner help. It only happens when cold.

give it a try...

David,

Looks though you were right. After recently draining the tank of unleaded I bled the fuel system and filed up with diesel using an injector cleaner / fuel additive and the noise has gone! The engine now runs better than ever. The additive I used was Millers - any connection ;-)

thanks for the advice.

Good news! On the Millers thing, good product, but no connection...
