(Home) Turbo/manifold noise

just a note to anyone worried about turbo noise,
two weeks ago i noticed a high pitched whistle comeing from turbo area(yes i started getting £££ flashing before my eyes).however after inspection it was traced to the four nuts holding the turbo to the manifold , two were missing and the other two were loose, after tightening/replacing these nuts all was fine...........until this weekend, the same noise came back.so today i have taken the turbo off for inspection only to find the absence of any gaskets but an abundance of "gum gum" so i'm off to toyota tomorow for the said gaskets.the morral of the story is that dont automatically think the turbo is knackerd when it whistles (like i did).ps while i was under the bonnet? i noticed that the manifold has a slight "banana"-2mm to its mating faces is this within tollerances?? i'm also gona replace the cam belt while im at it,will toyota stock these items?
thanx..

Banana- shaped manifold is normal, but not correct... Either take it to a machine shop for surfacing, or (as others here have done) be selective with the use of an angle grinder and a flat surface ;-)

Hmmm... you don't happen to live near me, do you? There's a blue Masterace I see round Ards that has been making a hell of a squeal for some time now. Meant to speak to it's owner...

thanx for the reply, and no its not me i live in derby.
as for the manifold, angle grinder sounds a bit harsh!
its only slightly warped so i think i'll take my chance and just tighten it up evenly.ps.i got my gasket & cam belt today, also the engine manual which i think will prove invaluable on sunday when i get under the bonnet.

At 2mm warp, you're risking cracking the manifold or pulling the threads out of the head while attempting to seal... Spec is .3mm or so IIRC
