(Home) 2-ct oil pump wobbly shaft

I have fitted a 2-ct motor to my Land Rover 90 and have just done the first 5000kms and am now fitting a new timing belt and doing the valve clearances. Have not got access to a manual in South Africa but will order one via mates in the UK. My question is that upon checking the oil pump shaft for movement with the cam belt off it rocks from side to side more than I would think was normal. The timing belt that came off shows no distress as all and no major oil leak is visible from the shaft. Does the oil pump have only a sinlge bearing with the rear supported by the pump rotor and stator, in which case the movement may be normal because in operation the rotor and stator are supported by the oil?

Ooh, I don't like the sound of that. The shaft runs directly in the housing. There's no spec for clearance there, but rotor to body and rotor tip-to-tip maximum is 0.2mm, rotor endfloat 0.15mm.
The front seal is a standard lip seal, so it'll accomodate a fair bit of play.
I'd probably consider changing the pump if it were me...
