a short or chafed wire somewhere between the fuse and the light fitting. Remember that interior lights are negative switched.

My front door interior light stays on continuously, i can only stop this by switching it off at the switch near the mirror, i have checked both the switches and they seem fine also the little light that illuminates the ignition key stays on as well, i have had to disconect this

any ideas what the problem may be

thanks for any help, sam

Possibly corroded contacts on one of the door switches

Most likely that one of the wires from the switch to the lamp cluster in the ceiling had chafed & is shorting to earth, remember that the interior lights are earth switched. You'll have to disconnect the wiring in turn to find which side is causing the problem. However it is quite common for the rubber boot that covers the switch in each door pillar to wear out, thus allowing the switch to remain permanently connected, try pushing the switch in fully to see if the light goes out.
