(Home) Cool-down 2c-t engine

Hi all,
I have just completed an engine change(2C-T)in my 1988 Master Ace,and all seems well, thanks to the info, pics etc in other threads on this forum, not forgetting the tips from David Miller and John Corfield.

I have one further query;I have noticed that only some of these Townies with this motor has a timer for a cool-down period for the turbo after switch-off!Is it only on Automatics or?and if one doesn't have facility,is it advisable to install? We can get an "Aftermarket" unit here for approx 33UK pound!

Cheers,Trev S.

Trev, the turbo timer is an extra on all models. It's also deemed to be unnecessary on a diesel, the manifold doesn't get hot enough really. On top of that, the CT12 in the Townace is water cooled, to alleviate coking problems in the bearing housing. I've stripped a couple of turbos and seen no evidence of coking.
Assuming you're using a reasonable grade of oil (semi-synth for preference), the only time you should ever need to consider a cooling down period would be coming to a halt immediately after cresting a long climb, esp. when towing. Normally, the time spent coming off the motorway, or finding a parking space, or whatever, will be sufficient to take the heat off the manifold

Thanks for that david,I had noticed the water piping to the turbo area, but because the Timer was on a couple of other Townies my mechanic had previously worked on,was unsure!
Money will probably better spent on a Duralite temp guage.

Cheers,TS.
