(Home) Fuel pump calibration

I have a 1990 Master ace 4WD I have been told that the fuel ued in Japan is not the same grade over here and this is the problem with black smoke and the answer is to have our fuel pumps all re-calibrated to burn less fuel, has anyone out there had their pump re-calibrated,where/how much and did it work.
I have had my Ace for 5years and put a reconditon engine in it to stop black smoke but to little effect,it might be that they still ued the old pump and didnot think about calibrating the pump,to me it all seems to point to the pump ?.
Dennis - Happy New Year to you all.

Dennis,
Others will have more knowledge of these pumps but, excess fuelling will show up on the MOT test and re-calibration is usually required if the emissions figure is too high. I think I paid about £40 to have the pump tested and set up (on the vehicle).

Dennis, you will have to take it off to check it properly (bosch derv centres are best as its a jap copy of a bosch pump) and then you might as well get it timed with a dial gauge when you refit (screws in the back smack in the middle of the pipes)- if you want the pump data sending. let me know and i will scan it as the pump place will need it to set the calibration. you might as well change the cambelt as you will have slack it off to release the pump
