(Home) Alternator/vacuum pump

Hi group
I've gone through two replacement alternators and each time the vacuum pump has failed. Now both rotors are shot, one badly worn at the bush end and the other the spline has been stripped.
I'm talking pre-1987 here with the vacuum pump at the rear of the alternator (Nippon). I have access to a later model alternator with vacuum pump the pulley end. Is it possible to replace the alternator on my 2C (1985) with the later pump if I can get the appropriate mounting brackets? I see that mine has a 3 pin plug and the later alternator a 4 pin plug.
Thought rather than trying to find another earlier alternator only to find it too was on its last legs replace it with the later one with the larger vacuum pump.
Or
Any person in NZ wanting to swap a later for an earlier alternator. They, believe me are getting hard to find here.

The oil feed pipe isn't blocked, by any chance? The rotary vane pump is meant to run immersed...

You might have fun getting the pulleys to line up using the later pump, but it's worth a try.
I'll have a look on the cd later to confirm that the brackets interchange. You may also need an external regulator (or not...)

ok, the upper bracket (on the block) differs. pulley offset differs yet again on the later models with paired belts.
