(Home) Washers and rear lights, Spacecruiser electrics problems (Sp+)

Hello, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice regarding a few problems we have with our Toyota Space Cruiser 1984 1.8 Ltr. It is not an import.

Recently, the car has failed it's MOT due to the screen washers not working but the pump can be heard trying to get water to the screen. Neither the front or the rear screen washers are working. If there is a blockage, what would be the a way to find it and clear it?

The rear tail lights have been suffering corosion and I'd like to replace these. Where could I find replacements for these please?

We had the engine replaced recently, and because I knew the tail lights didn't work I had tried to replace the bulbs but I found that both of the bulbs had been blown, which made me think that the engineers who were working on our car shorted something which caused them to go. Where could I look initially to try identify the problem or will it be better to call an electrian?

If your washer motor is running then it's likely either the pipe has come off the bottle or there is a blockage somewhere. As neither front nor back are working, I would suspect your blockage/missing pipe to be near the bottle and pump rather than the jets being blocked.

Your tail lights blowing may be as a result of the corrosion. Best bet for replacements is a scrappy. Spacecruisers do pop up occassionally, especially the larger yards that revolve their stock a lot. Alternatively try one of the larger outfits that advertise on the web. Check the electrics when replacing the clusters, just in case you may have a short or bared wire somewhere.

Brian,
If I had one tail blow I knew the other blow shortly after. Changed as a pair and no problem. Never got to the bottom of it, just bought a job lot of bulbs. I have not had to change a bulb in almost a year of having the Townie (as a result of a blow), so perhaps a Specy feature?

Re the washer, perhaps the solenoid valve that switches between front and rear jets is duff?
Both it and the pump mount on to the washer reservoir.
