(Home) Squeak

I have noticed that my townie has developed an intermittent squeak in the LHS Front Wheel area. This noise is only occasionally but sometimes can be a bit worrying. It's more like a high pitched scraping sound and seems to be more attuned to the suspension/shocks than the wheels as speed does not affect it but up and down motion at the front sometimes does. Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't give off any vibration or affect steering, handling or braking and it does away just as mysteriously as it starts.

Could be wear in the shock absorber rubbers, dry ball joints or simply dry joints between bushes. Have a good look around for wear then if nothing obvious try a rubber/silicone lubricant around shock and suspension bushes and see if it goes away.

Hi Tony,

I had the same annoying squeak on both sides and found
it at top of suspension.
Take the front wheels off to get at them where you find
plugs, that can be replaced with grease nipples.Just pump them full until you feel the rubber cups/boots are
solid. The book says to replace the plugs!
Use water repellant grease as against GP as GP tends to go solid!

Cheers,TS.
