i have had the car mentioned above nearly 18 months and have just recently replaced the engine. i started the engine and the sound was beautiful , since that day, there has been a loud knocking sound coming from the manifold side towards the rear.

Is it a rythmic banging in line with engine speed or more variable? If the former then possibly to do with the engine rebuild, something like tappets incorrectly set. If the latter, check all ancilliaries are bolted down and in the correct position so as not to knock against the bulkhead etc. Are the engine mounts tight.

Ta 4 that Ian have cleared caused as incorrectly torqued flywheel nuts (never trust a friend to do this) now remedied, still cant get the thing to run as coil seems to be goosed. thanks again Jim
