(Home) Glasgow garage / engine trouble

Further to my message a few nights ago, it now looks unlikely that I will be able to transport my non-running Lite Ace down to Swindon from Glasgow without spending a lot of money (too heavy to tow & transporter hire is v. expensive.)

As such, could anyone suggest a good garage in the Glasgow area that has experience of Town Ace / Lite Ace repairs, especially of the engine kind? The van is stranded in Uddingston with (what I'm told!) is a blown Cylinder head gasket and damage to a piston / cylinder. Is this terminal and requires new engine or repairable? Any info / cost idea would be appreciated. (I'm not exactly mechanically minded!!) Its still in an otherwise good condition and I'm hoping it can be repaired. Thanks for your help.

a blown gasget costs about 100 qiud in parts plus labour (300) if the heads cracked .. u need a second hand head (250-300) .. second hand engine is 500 qiud from bill at bbc spares plus vat and p&p
u will need to check the diaganol drillings in the block once the heads off for blockages (they r tiny holes) and get the cooling system checked out ( blockages , leaks etc and get it flushed and a new stat and a rad cap - check the header tank hose (inside header - tank for a loose fit) make sure the viscous fan is ok .. too

forgot to mention, dont even think of refitting any head without getting it skimmed first

Thanks Jim, its getting assessed by a garage tomorrow so I will see what they say and what they are planning on charging. I may be back on asking for more good advice!!

All your questions concerning the glowplug system can be answered by reading section ST in the 2C engine manual. It's available from yout Toyota dealer for under £10 on back order. ref RM025E. I could scan the relevant parts but I'm waiting for BT to fix my landline which means I can't do this until next week when back at work. The glowplug relay is located in the corner between the rear engine bulkhead and sidewall under the passenger seat, under the air pipe from the filter to the turbo. The preheat timer is in pillar behind the passenger seat. No wiring diagrams for central locking I'm afraid.

What's the nature of your problems? Maybe I or someone else can help with diagnosis and cure.
