(Home) Rear brake cilinder seal kit

I am replacing the rear shoes on my 1990 Masterace and, because of a fluid weep, I am replacing the cylinder seals also. I had a pleasant surprise from the Toyota dealer. After ordering and paying for two kits, Part No T04906-30080, on delivery, it was found that each kit covers two cylinders, ie, each rear wheel so, I was given half my money back. The kits only cost £8.74 plus VAT and include all the piston seals, rubber boots, dust caps etc, and seem, in terms of cost, much out of proportion to the £60 plus which someone posted as the price of a seal kit for the master cylinder.

Hello John,

I think the previous post you mention was referring to the main brake master cylinder that controls the flow of fluid to all four wheels and not the rear cylinders that push the rear shoes onto the drum. This would explain the difference in price.

Mark,
Yes, I do remember that the previous price quoted was for the m/cylinder but, my point was the very wide disparity in seal price. The m/cylinder only has four seals and a boot etc and, it seems to me that the seal kit is very expensive for a comparitevly simple set of mouldings. Or, perhaps the m/cylinder kit comes with the seals mounted onto a new two new piston assemblies.
