(Home) Fuel pump (Sp+)

Got a F reg Spacecruiser Model F,petrol, she was running fine but broke down tree times over last few weeks. Problem is when starting with warm engine, she runs for a bout five minutes then dies. No fuel getting thru. She is fine starting from cold. Had AA out last time who eventually started her by hand pumping petrol thru to carb, he said to replace fuel pump and filters but I am having trouble finding pump locally (Derbyshire). Also she seems a bit underpowered at times, fuel starvation maybe any help appreciated

Kev,
Have look at the filter first, before the pump. There is a glass view point on the float chamber so you can see if there is fuel in the carb. After running and as it cools down the vacuum in the carb sucks fuel into the float chamber, so cold starts are not a problem. Fire it up and watch the the level in the window.
You should be able to get a pump from a local factors.

Thanks for help. When I start her from warm there is petrol visible in window, she runs for a few minutes then dies. I ckecked the fuel pipe backwards from the carb to the pump, it was bone dry. I turned her over but couldnt get any thing thru the pump, however soon as she was cold she started up. It took a few pulls to fire up its as thou petrol is running back thru to tank when hot. could it be a vacuum in tank, I had this before on another car it was a blocked breather pipe, or is it a seal or something in the pump itself. As regards motor factors, local place has directed me to a main dealer so should be sorted at a price ( I live out in sticks so not much choice).

Kev

Whereabouts in Derbyshire are you? Give Matti a ring on 01332 272292. He's at Stenson Fields near Derby. Specialises in Jap imports but I saw a Spacecruiser outside when I was down there last week. He'll fix you up with a 2nd hand pump for sure.

I'd still check the fuel filter first though.
