Any of you guys yuk a cararavan with your ace?i am thinking about it and would be interested in what mods you have done,or cooling or suspension alterations, i can,t access the towing section on ace answers for some strange reason,my beasty is a 91 super extra 2wd 2.0.lt turbo diesel,lookin forward to some replies, tek care y,all Fred.

Fred, theres not realy enough spare bhp,s to pull the townace never mind a caravan, id seriously give it a swerve - youl end up neeeding a new head if it gets too hot - plus the auto transmission is going to need an extra cooler - you might get away with a small trailer though, sorry to spoil your plans but read the ace answers on cooling and youl getme drift

Jim seems to paint a bit of doom & gloom here, there's plenty of guys on this forum that drag some hefty caravans all over the country with their aces, so I'd wait for some other replies about them first before dismissing the Townie as a towing bus, however Jim is right, the power output isn't huge, so a stately pace would be the order of the day, plus the cooling system would need to be tip top, and as he says the auto transmission oil cooler isn't fantastic, but if you use the Townie with the overdrive off on uphill sections it will be OK, as the auto trans oil cooler is turned off when in overdrive, switch it off & it flows through the ccoler again. HTH, and I'll bow to greater knowledge from those that tow. Regards Rob.

Robs right, pherhaps i did paint a gloomy picture of towing, his advice is sound on the subject of towing, by the way the standard tranny cooler is part of the radiator (left hand side -look for the 2 little pipes) and not seperate so cooling the oil will result in situation where the engine cooling system is put under more pressure to keep things cool . id think about a durite gauge addition at least

many thanks,for your views,it seems complications could arise,so the solution is sell wifes car and buy 4x4 and keep towny, manythanks to all as i,ve had e-mails as well ,great site.regards Fred
