(Home) Electric fans

reading up on cooling faults and i,m interested in fitting a leccy fan, which one is 1) easiest to fit.
2) best make.
3)where do you fit sensor (s) and at what temp setting, i,ve seen a system where the sensor fits into the rad fins and is set at 82c is it any good?
my present fan seems to work ok but feels resistant when cold and after a run tother day felt free er than norm i ,ve driven with seat up and it appears to spin ok,is this the norm? its done 92 000 klms up to press,
i am in the hands of the cooling gurus please advise. here,s hoping tata fer now Fred.

Fred i fitted two Pacet fans to my rad (2wd)last summer
they are quite good too, the sensing was a 2 stage job with half speed ballasted through 2 headlight bulbs at first but i since developed a mosfet control which used an ntc temp gauge thermister (ford mondeo) set in one of the blanks on the top hose casting. This meant that as the temp rose it instantly reacted and started to turn the fans qiucker. max speed is set at 110 degrees and cut in at 82 degrees. If you have a 4wd then the main rad is smaller by about an inch all round (but u have the additional horizontal rad underneath on the 4wd) You can use a Kenloowe capilary trip which is a bulb which is inserted via a fine tube through the top hose- its good as it has a variable control to allow you set your own cut in point
. All in all you will gain the following advantages by fitting a good electric fan set up
less noise, better fuel economy, better engine access, more power ( a viscous fan saps bhp,s),
Finally go for a good fan like kenloowe or pacet and have a look in ace answers for a pic of mine
hope this helps

Hi all,

I have a J reg Masterace 4X4 and a 750kg caravan

I was towing my caravan back from the New Forest the weekend before last and with the fridge(on ICE) and both Aircons on I was getting to about 109 degrees (a nats under the 110 mark on my Durite gague)and I thought I had better do something about this. I have a new Thermostat that I plan to drill some holes in but I will not be able to fit this before I take the van out again. as a stop-gap I have decided to fit a switch so that I can turn on the two fans on the horisontal radiator when it is hot and I am towing.

I was planning to put the switch between the first temp gague and the fans.

Can anyone see any probs with this?

Barrie
