(Home) Upper suspension ball joint - grease or groan

i have had two owners asking about the upper ball joint on rwd townies.
jack up and remove wheel. there is a small blanking bolt on top of the upper ball joint, clean round it and remove, insert grease nipple (local parts shop will have one, take bolt for correct thread, and get an angled one if available), then pump in heavy duty grease. i think i use black castrol mb2?
cures the suspension groan (well one of them), prolongs the life of the joint.

4x4 has the same plug. Even more essential on the 4x4, considering the upper balljoint comes on the wishbone at £250 or so!

Moly grease is specified, yes.

If not the above then try squirting a silicone based lubricant into the rubber mountings.
