I have a Renault Clio 1.4RT (J reg). Recently the cambelt broke whilst I was driving. I have since given it to a garage for repair and have been told that the valves have been broken and therefore I need a new engine. I have spoken to a couple of other mechanics who have both said its just the head gasket that needs replacing. What's your opinion?

I think they mean just the head needs replacing, the bit that holds the valves.
As it's not a Toyota engine I can't comment further.
