(Home) Washers not working (Sp+)

I've got and old '87 SpaceCruiser. The washer pumps (that sprinkle water onto the windscreen) are not working (front & rear). Without a wiring diagram finding the fault is painful! This is what I've discovered so far. The blue wire that goes up to the button on the end of the wiper speed stem (on the stearing column) has a very small +ve voltage on it that goes to zero when the washer button is depressed. I suspect 12 volts should be on this. All the fuses under the passenger dash are OK. I've found some relays under driver's side dash that may have something to do with the fault. But I'm not sure. Anyone got and idea's of what I could do next?

Thanks & Regards
Kevin

Toyota switch most accessories on the earth side rather than live, so what you're seeing is correct (ish) You need to go to the motor (behind the r/h rear light) and verify 12v to it, and verify that the 12v remains when you actuate the switch. If it stays high, the pump's duff, if it goes low, you've got a wiring fault between fuse and pump...

Thanks David for your insight. The problem turned out to be a break in the wiring loom under the passenger sliding door. The previous owner replaced the 'break-out' box with crimped connections. One of these crimped connections had broken, it turned out to be the feed to the washer pump motor. Like most problems easy to fix but difficult to find. Anyway its now fixed and my '87' SpaceCruiser passed its MOT so I'll have another year of happy motoring ! Again thanks for such a great Web Site.
