Just filled up for the second time since ownership
1st time was 17.44mpg
2nd time was 17.92mpg
Vehicle is hiace auto with 3L engine (2779cc)

Doesnt appear to be any exhaust smoke and so far vehicle has been used on roads where I would expect it not do top mpg but certainly close to

What fuel consumption could be considered normal for these vehicles - at worst and best

Hi Chris - dunno about the Hiace 3L, I have a 2L Townace and just did a nice long run, only to note that it's doing around 18 mpg. Around town I think it's even worse, but I think there's something wrong with it.

Anyway, try the Ace Answers website this Ace Answers website under the Fuel System category (bottom l/h frame) - you'll find a long discourse about consumption. Look for Fuel consumption in the top r/h frame.

Just struck me today that the slipping autobox must be contributing to this! (previous posting) - so I'll see how it goes once rectified

hello, i have just bought a 2 ltr turbo diesel townace, and i dont think its doing very good mpg for a diesel, i put 20 quid in and i managed 200 klms which i think is about 155 miles. Is this good? I thought diesels should do about 50mpg!?!anyone got any ideas?thanks!!

I have a 2l petrol space cruiser and it was doing approx 15 mpg so I replaced the dizzy/coil, ht leads, spark plugs, rotor arm, dizzy cap, tuned it in and got the gas tested and adjusted + a new exaust and now after all that its doubled the mpg to approx 33 mpg (27 mpg around town and 35-40 mpg on the motorway

Tim - no not right should get around 25-30 mpg, or upto 500 Kms per tankful! If it's a new import it may be set up to run rich. In any case get it to a Diesel tuners who will calibrate it for you. Should recap the cost in a few hundred Ks.

Ben - I did all the replacements, tuned for economy and not (lol) performance and only got 25 ish around town and a little over 30 on a run, on my carb'd speccy (Tarago for those of you in Aus/NZ). So well done.
