(Home) Master ace sliding door

Ever had one of those MOT moments
Yesterday, 14.15 hrs. MOT tester attempts to open rear sliding door to check rear seat belts, whole door drops off the middle sliding rail onto his foot! Fault; Nylon roller disintigrated! Any cunning suggestions for a replacement, or will I have to get the whole thing from Toyota? Ace failed test, but only on binding front brake, adjustment to front wheel bearing and needs new roll bar bushes. Not bad for a £1500 car. Ian
p.s. MOT man appeased by allowing him to repair the Master ACE!

92 Lite Ace TD - My bearing ( I thought it was a metal bearing ) disintigrated about 8 months ago. Made a makeshift repair with a nylon bush from a sliding patio door. Still works!! but I too need info on a replacement part no.
Any help appreciated.

Just looked at my hiace - it has a metal top roller and I guess (its very dirty) a nylon bottom roller with a pop rivet through the centre
You could try hardware/diy shops for small rollers - then dismantle and mount in a drill (or lathe if you are well equipped) and reduce to size with grit paper or whatever
i used to work in a plastic stockholders many years ago and nylon bar of most diameters was sold by the metre - you could then cut it, drill it out and bush it with a bit of stainless pipe and liner or drilled stainless bar from a steel stockholder then pop rivet it back
Assuming the minimum length of bars you could acquire were 1 mtr long, I guess you'd have enough left over to make another 49
I would try toyota 1st (just in case its an acceptable price for the correct product) and the local DIY if you want a more imaginative approach
What about ringing other manufacturers parts agents with dimensions just in case you can find a close match or scrap yards with vans in stock
Good luck
Chris

Ian I suppose that a nylon/plastic roller is fitted to quieten the operation but a brass roller would do the job just as well. I will check my Masterace bottom door assembly and see if I can get some dimensions etc.
If you are still stuck, it will be an easy job for me to turn up a couple of rollers in the lathe.

Thanks guys. Toyota replacement price £52.46 +VAT! Only complete assy available. My mate paul is a bike mechanic and reckons he has a small roller bearing that might do the trick. Will keep you posted.
