Excellent site! Bought my 1992 Townace Super Extra 2.0 manual 4WD in June 2002 and am completely hooked. Found this site last week, loads of useful information, just what's needed - huge thanks to all contributors.
For Townies in and around Bristol, Bristol MPV Centre are very helpful. Bought my Townie from them straight from import, choice of makes and models, free two year warranty, reasonable cost servicing on site, good advice over the phone with minor enquiries:-

Bristol MPV Centre
117 Downend Road
Fishponds
Bristol

Two questions:-
1) Wanting to buy free-standing side tent but am aware of differences between Townie guttering and that on VW Campers, so VW products do not seem to be an option. Found website www.eurocampers.com with some possible alternatives, (Explorer, Komet or Adria side tents). Does anyone have knowledge or experience of these products?
2) The needle on my rev counter periodically drops down to zero when I'm driving, then rights itself after few seconds. Can't seem to find any consistent factor to cause this. Don't think it's a big problem (I hope) but any ideas?

Denise,
I understood that the Bristol MPV centre was producing it's own? Glad to see they have increased the warranty, not that I needed to use mine for anything major but it was only for 6 months, this time last year!
Suggest you get the rev counter looked at under the warranty
I live in North Bristol if you ever want any other help.
And congrats on selecting an excellent vehicle.

Welcome to the Bristolian Arm of the Townie Luvvers Club. Had my 1991 Townie Super Extra for 8 months of trouble free spacious transport. We have six kids so finding the eight seater invaluable. Live in South Bristol and have seen loads of Townies in my area. So if either of you see a Silver Townie reg begins H709 with loads of manic kids swarming around the back seats give us a honk and a wave.

Thanks to Clive and Tony for prompt and warm welcomes to Townie life. Thought B.MPV only did awnings but will follow that one up. Due for warranty service in 3 weeks so will sort rev counter then. Lots to learn, my knowledge of Townie mechanics is basic as yet, so appreciate your offer of future advice, Clive.
Always out and about, loads of miles for work, so definitely a honk and a wave from green Townie J968. (Did wave the other day to same colour and model Townie and was completely blanked - can't have found this site yet!)

Glad to hear B MPV are reputable - just looking at a Royal lounge one there today and getting it checked tomorrow. This is a first vehicle for our family of seven and reassured to see these behicles have such a fan club and help links as, having no mechanical knowledge being pampered with company cars until recent redundancy (!), we will need some reassurance!
Maybe will meet you all soon as I see there is a meet at Burnham next w/e. We live on Spike Island.
