(Home) White smoke on acceleration

My H Reg Townace Grande 2L TD has suddenly developed a white smoke problem. It only happens when I accelerate and it is a lot of smoke(I had to stop). In idle it ticks lovely with no smoke. Even if I drive it under 50k there is no smoke. I removed air filter to see if this was the problem and now it seems to be leaking deisal,(a fair amount)when the engine is started. No doubt I replaced the filter. The turbo light on the dash is still OK. Someone suggested the injectors and said It couldn't be the piston rings. Is this true? Any help would be appreciated.

white smoke? either blown turbo, or retarded injection timing, as a guess...

Dear David, Thanks for your help. What about the leaking diesel?

that could cause the retarded timing. look at the bottom of the pump, there's a small domed cover held on with two allen screws. On the opposite face of the pump (facing the block) there is another similar cover. My bet is one of those is leaking- the timing device lies under them. Check also the top cover of the pump, although a big enough leak here to reduce transfer pressure would be catastrophic. Either way, your local diesel specialist can supply parts and or do the work.
