(Home) Door lock on rear

When I drop the rear door down the catch no longer seems to engage.
Looking at it, it revolves freely in the door.
Is there a spring or something inside which may have broke?
The lock unit looks sealed does it have to be replaced or can it be repaired.
Have removed the panel on the inside of the door but can't reach the catch from the inside.

check that the release handle isn't stuck, but other than that, it's new latch time.

The latch on mine seemed to stick last summer,
in the end it was the connecting rods etc. behind the inside handle,
just a few screws to remove the inside handle and cover, and spray with wd40 over the mechanism and rods.
this cured mine after messing around with the closing catch for ages .

Mark,
that is what it was. The inside part in the handle was seized solid and needed some WD and grease to free it. Now its better than its ever been!
