(Home) Blue/black smoke

I have a townie 2 lt manual disel my problem is black smoke after about 30 minuets running mostly on tickover when i come to light's and stop clouds of blue black smoke comes from it it's realy bad but from cold no smoke at all really strange hope someone out there can help me......Thanks in anticipation

Black smoke is usually a sign of excess fuel. Have you changed the air filter recently? It can really make a difference. Otherwise a check of the mixture at the pump. Blue smoke - often turbo related check for blocked breather on top of the head or return line from turbo to sump. Try changing the oil with an additive to remove varnish and other crap build up in the turbo.

...wot Ian says- the oil gets thinner when it gets hot, and either turbo or breather would seem likely...

I have a 1989 townace in the past month or so it has started to give poor mpg aprox 15 mpg and it is also giving of black smoke mainly as I pull a way I have changed the oil, but still have the same problem, the townie has only done about 89000 km any help welcome.
