(Home) Townie vs lucy ( Estima / Lucida )

I do remember you asking me to do that Ian!! So here goes to the best of, or lack of literacy ability.

First of all the model I have is the rare "manual" version. So things like mpg etc have to be weighed up compared to the automatic.

They have full time 4wd and the first thing you notice is that the ride is not as bumpy as in the townie. You sit a lot lower than in the townie and I would say that the drive is more "car like" aswell. But in no way does it drive like a car.

The same refinements are there, dual air con, hot/cool box, curtains twin sunroofs full electrics etc. Some models have parking sensors, mine doesnt so cant compare.

The big differance really is fuel consumption, I get 33miles to the gallon around town and around 42 on a steady motorway run.

Space behind the rear seats for luggage is much greater, a bonus when you have 5 kids to take on holiday.

A very comfy ride, handles very well. And overall, mainly because of extra space i prefer it to the townace. However, I must admit that the townace knocks spots off it when it comes to character!!!

Hope this is of use to you, like with the townace there is a great helpgroup too on the web.

If anyone wants to know more please just ask, Im not a mechanic in any way, so the toyota reliability is of course invaluable.

Thanks
Phil

Cheers Phil

Glad to hear that you are pleased with your new acquisition.

Now I always thought that the Townie had more cargo space. Does that still count for when the back seats are up? I can get 6'6" on the deck from the back of the engine bulkhead to the backdoor. Is it as big in the Lucida?

Hi just bought an Estima after owning a Townace Royal Lounge and a Liteace New shape and have found this site invaluable, shame there is not one as good for the Estima. Does anyone know how to remove the radio housing for me to fit a double din unit? Does anyone know how to contact Mike Flanagan haven't seen him since I sold him a Renualt Senic (understandable) his changed his email and mobile number can you help.
