I have been advised that on my Trubo dsl townie a 2 1/4 inch aftermarket exhaust from the turbo back will improve both power and economy.
I am a little sceptical about it doing both, but I do know that a free breathing exhaust did increase power for my Father-in-Law's diesel Nissan Patrol.
I will get mine done hopefully before the end of the year (there always seems to be something else to spend the little spare cash I can find).

Others here have mentioned a little screw on the fuel pump to icrease power (check other threads) but that also decreases fuel consumption and can increase smoking (and we all know that smoking is a wealth hazard!)

Anything else will be much more radical - increasing turbo boost, bigger turbo, intercooling, bigger engine! (a friend is trying to get me to put in a turbo 3.0 ltr from a Hilux, but if I can't find $250 for an exhaust, how am I gonna find that sort of money?)

but that won't help much on a petrol spacey...

Different carb or injection setup, gas flowed head, free flow exhaust and a k&n air filter, in fact anything that can be done to a Celica. Plus a second fuel tank to cope with the drop in mph.
Suggest a good tune and let them know you want towing grunt and not lean burn economy.

Sorry, I'm from Western Australia. We never called them 'Spacecruisers' here.
I should know better than to assume everyone here is talking about imported Aces.

The exhaust will help a little for petrol too, but not as much.
The best way to improve power would be to drop in a Mazda rotary!!!!!!! (A little bit expensive though)
